About this race
The Cootehill 5k begins and ends at the Gate Lodge in Halton's Amenity Park, a scenic recreation area situated just outside the town center. The course follows a picturesque two-loop route along the east and west banks of the Dromore River, leading participants through lush broadleaf forest trails and past the enchanting Erica’s Fairy Forest. A signature feature of this run is the crossing of a footbridge that serves as the boundary between County Cavan and County Monaghan, making it a unique multi-county experience. The terrain consists of a functional mixture of tarmac, gravel, and woodland trail paths that remain firm underfoot. While the route is largely flat and offers tranquil river views, it includes gentle rolling hills and winding paths that provide a refreshing challenge for all levels.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
