About this race

The Connemara International Half Marathon features a breathtaking point to point paved course that begins in the picturesque village of Leenane and concludes at the event hub in Maam Cross. The route travels along the majestic Killary Fjord, guiding participants through a dramatic landscape of glacial lakes, vast bogs, and the towering Twelve Pins mountain range. While officially classified as a road race, the terrain is defined by its relentless rolling hills, including two significant, "honest" climbs that test both rhythm and resolve. Runners enjoy 13.1 miles of unpolluted West of Ireland air on a 100% tarmac surface.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Point-to-point Course type
0m limit 21.1m Start/finish drop
18.68km limit 10.5km Start/finish separation
✗ Doesn't meet the course-profile criteria — start and finish are too far apart relative to race distance.
