About this race
The Carney Sligo Half Marathon begins in the heart of Carney Village and concludes at the Oxfield Community Centre, serving as a scenic tour of North Sligo's rugged beauty. This atmospheric out-and-back course guides participants along the coastal road toward the picturesque Raghly Harbour, offering spectacular views of Benbulben mountain and the Atlantic shoreline. Runners navigate a route that passes through tranquil rural landscapes and near the historic Lissadell estate, providing a truly immersive experience in the Yeats Country. The terrain is run entirely on permanent road surfaces, ensuring a reliable footing as the race winds through the coastal countryside. Characterized by its rolling hills and occasional coastal breezes, the course offers a spirited and rewarding challenge for athletes seeking a scenic test of endurance.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
