About this race
The Breffni 3 Province Challenge 5k is the shortest run and walk option at this well-loved charity event in the village of Arva, County Cavan, with the event headquarters based at Market Square in the village centre. Part of a day renowned for taking participants through the three provinces of Ulster, Connacht and Leinster, the 5k follows the quiet country roads around Arva, set in the scenic drumlin countryside close to where Cavan, Leitrim and Longford converge. Run on peaceful rural roads largely free of traffic, the gentle distance is ideal for beginners, families, walkers and younger participants wanting to be part of the occasion. As with every distance on the day, all proceeds support cancer charities, and finishers collect a bespoke medal and t-shirt. With its relaxed pace and warm village welcome, it offers an inclusive introduction to the wider challenge.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
