About this race

The Breffni 3 Province Challenge 10k is one of the popular shorter running options at this long-established charity event in the village of Arva, County Cavan, with the event headquarters located at Market Square in the village centre. Part of a day that famously sends participants through the three provinces of Ulster, Connacht and Leinster, the 10k takes in the quiet rural roads around Arva, set in the scenic drumlin countryside close to the point where Cavan, Leitrim and Longford meet. The course is run on undulating country roads through peaceful farmland, well away from traffic, making it suitable for both club runners and those stepping up from shorter distances. As with every distance in the challenge, proceeds go to cancer charities, and finishers receive a bespoke medal and t-shirt. The welcoming village atmosphere and strong local support make it a memorable summer outing.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
