About this race
The Shandrum Christmas 5k is a community road event based at Newtownshandrum GAA in County Cork, where number collection and refreshments are in the community hall. The circular course starts near Newtownshandrum church and runs through the village with two left turns, before looping back towards the village. The route map shows a loop on local roads, with a mostly flat opening two kilometres, a steady, sustained climb that builds around the 3-kilometre mark, and a downhill final kilometre that leads to the finish at the GAA hall. The surface is mostly paved, with a section of unclassified surface. The race is held on 28 December, between Christmas and the New Year, and has an approved permit, certificate number 26/619, making it a popular festive 5k for local runners.
