About this race
The Run Valentia Half Marathon features a breathtaking, single-loop paved course that begins and ends at the Knightstown Promenade on the picturesque Valentia Island. Participants navigate a challenging coastal route that provides panoramic views of Dingle Bay and the Blasket Islands to the right, while the majestic Skellig Islands loom to the left. The terrain consists of 100% tarmac road but is defined by an honest series of rolling hills that showcase the island's rugged, wild Atlantic beauty. Runners enjoy a unique, traffic-free atmosphere with the ocean visible from nearly every point on the circuit.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
