About this race
The Run Ballybunion Half Marathon begins and ends in the heart of the vibrant seaside town of Ballybunion, typically starting on the Main Street near the local community center. This breathtaking 13.1-mile course guides participants along a scenic loop that passes the historic Ballybunion Castle and follows the dramatic coastline overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Runners navigate a route with stunning views of the world-famous Ballybunion Golf Club and the serene Cashen River estuary. The terrain is run entirely on permanent road surfaces, providing a reliable foundation for the duration of the event. Characterized by its rolling hills and coastal breezes, the course offers a spirited challenge rewarded by some of the most spectacular cliffside vistas in County Kerry.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
