About this race

The Rathkenny 5k Road Race is organised by Rathkenny Athletics Club and takes place in the village of Rathkenny in County Meath. The course runs on country roads in and around the village and the grounds of Tankardtown House, passing through the quiet rural landscape of mid-Meath. The terrain is on tarmac throughout and the course is described as scenic, taking in the rolling countryside of the area. A fun run is also available alongside the main chip-timed race. Rathkenny is a small rural community situated between Navan and Kells in County Meath, and the race draws participants from clubs across the county and surrounding area each year. The event is AAI permitted and welcomes runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities, making it a popular fixture on the summer road racing calendar in Leinster.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Point-to-point Course type
4m limit 5.0m Start/finish drop
1.28km limit 2.5km Start/finish separation
✓ Meets both World Athletics course-profile criteria.
