About this race

The Newry City Half Marathon is one of Ireland's most popular road races, organised by Newry City Runners and taking place on fully closed roads. The race starts and finishes on Albert Basin Road beside The Quays Shopping Centre in Newry city centre. From the start, runners head along the historic Newry Quay before following the scenic canal carriageway south towards Warrenpoint, passing the historic Narrow Water Castle en route. The course is widely regarded as one of Ireland's flattest and fastest half marathon routes, with personal best potential throughout. The route hugs the water's edge and offers a largely level profile from start to finish. Pacers are provided for a range of target times. The event is chip timed and all finishers receive a medal and race T-shirt. The event regularly sells out well in advance.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
