About this race
The Newry City 10k is a flat, fast road race organised by Newry City Runners, taking place on fully closed roads in Newry city. The race shares its start and finish with the Newry City Half Marathon, beginning on Albert Basin Road beside The Quays Shopping Centre in the city centre. The 10k route is designed to be lightning quick, following a straightforward and level course through the city. Like the half marathon, the course takes in the scenic Newry Quay area and benefits from a flat profile throughout, making it well suited to runners targeting personal bests. Starting at 10:30am, the 10k runs concurrently with the half marathon event, creating a lively and well-supported atmosphere along the route. The event is chip timed, and all finishers receive a medal and race T-shirt. Both races are organised with a strong focus on runner experience.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
