Glengarriff 5 Mile

The Glengarriff 5 Mile begins in the village of Glengarriff before winding into the adjoining Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve, one of the scenic highlights of West Cork's Beara Peninsula. The course takes in a genuine mix of surfaces, combining tarmac public roads with gravel and concrete woodland paths inside the reserve, before the final mile returns runners to smooth road surfaces for the finish back in the village centre. The middle section overlaps with the local weekly parkrun route through the nature reserve, reflecting the area's strong running culture. The terrain is undulating rather than flat, with stretches of shaded woodland alongside open coastal road, making for a properly varied test with stunning scenery throughout. As the opening race of the Beara AC Autumn 5 Mile Series, which also visits Allihies, Bere Island and Eyeries, it has grown steadily in popularity, with proceeds supporting Glengarriff and Derrycreha National Schools.
