About this race
The Galway 5k Series is a long-running county-wide initiative now in its twentieth year, featuring six races over six consecutive Tuesday evenings across different Galway locations. The Claregalway leg opens the 2026 series on 21 April. The 5k course follows a loop on local roads in and around Claregalway village. The format is simple and no-frills, with no prizes awarded but all series finishers receiving a souvenir race t-shirt. One race number covers the entire series. All proceeds go to fund juvenile and adult athletics across Galway. The event is chip timed and open to runners of all levels.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
