About this race
The Colm Horkan Memorial Run Half Marathon is part of the 6th annual event in Charlestown, County Mayo, organised by East Mayo AC and the Special Olympics Club in memory of Detective Garda Colm Horkan, a Charlestown native killed in the line of duty in 2020. Starting at Charlestown National School at 9am, the course covers the roads of Charlestown and the wider east Mayo hinterland on a route described as flat and fast. The event is chip timed and run under an Athletics Ireland permit. All participants receive a custom event T-shirt. Post-race refreshments and prize-giving are held at the CBD Complex at Charlestown GAA Club.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
