About this race
The Carraig na bhFear GAA 5k Road Race is an annual Athletics Ireland permitted event organised jointly by Carraig na bhFear GAA Club and Carraig na bhFear AC, held in the village of Carrignavar approximately six miles north of Cork city. The course is fully measured and marshalled on closed tarmac roads, starting and finishing at the Scoil an Athar Tadhg national school. The route takes runners through the rural roads of the Carrignavar area on a course that is gently undulating in character. Registration and number collection take place at the school from 6:30pm, with post-race refreshments and prizes held at the GAA clubhouse. The event is a well-supported community fixture and consistently draws a strong local and county-wide field.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
