About this race
The Buttevant RC 4mile begins on the R580 at the Kanturk road end of town and finishes with a triumphant stretch near the Buttevant GAA Complex. This scenic looped course guides participants through the heart of the historic town, turning onto New Street and the R522 before rounding the landmarks at the Crossroads. Runners navigate a picturesque route that captures the medieval charm of the local landscape while heading back toward the vibrant race headquarters. The terrain is characterized as relatively flat and fast, though it features notable climbs between the second and third miles that offer a rewarding challenge. Primarily run on smooth tarmac roads, the event provides a professional and high-energy atmosphere for athletes of all levels.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
