About this race

The Belfast City Marathon begins at the majestic Stormont Estate and concludes in the picturesque Ormeau Park. This city-wide route guides runners through diverse neighborhoods, showcasing landmarks like Belfast City Hall, the Titanic Quarter, and the iconic Big Fish sculpture. Participants navigate a course that features an initial fast descent from East Belfast followed by a series of rolling hills as the path winds through North and West Belfast. The terrain eventually levels out for a flat and fast final stretch along the scenic River Lagan toward the finish line. This professional race offers a high-energy atmosphere with extensive spectator support throughout the varied urban and riverside landscape.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Loop Course type
0m limit 42.2m Start/finish drop
5.11km limit 21.1km Start/finish separation
