About this race
The Athgarvan GAA & LGFA Community Fun Run 10k starts and finishes at Scoil Bhríde National School in Athgarvan, beside the local GAA grounds in County Kildare. Set out across the open, rolling plains of the Curragh, the route follows quiet country roads through this distinctive expanse of grassland near the Royal Curragh Golf Club, offering uninterrupted views over one of Ireland's best-known stretches of common land. The terrain is gently undulating rather than flat, giving the longer distance a pleasant rural challenge, with a water stop at roughly the halfway point. Run, jog or walk, all abilities are welcome, and every finisher receives a medal before refreshments in the school hall. The day also includes a 5k and a Kids 1K, making it a welcoming community-focused event. Organised by the club, it draws a friendly local field each year and supports the parish and its facilities.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
