About this race
The Ardglass 5k is a summer evening road race organised by Atlas Running, held on the same evening as the accompanying 10k. It starts and finishes at Ardglass Primary School in the coastal village of Ardglass, County Down. The course heads out along the peaceful country roads on the outskirts of the town, with the same rolling, undulating character that defines the local landscape. The terrain is neither flat nor demanding, offering a moderately challenging route suitable for runners of all abilities. The race is chip timed and medals are awarded to all finishers, with prizes for the top three male and female runners. Registration opens at the school from 5pm, with the 5k starting at 7:10pm, shortly after the 10k. Post-race refreshments are provided in the hall, creating a sociable atmosphere in this popular coastal Down venue.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
