About this race
The Streets of Athboy 5k is organised by Fr. Murphy AC and takes place on Friday 31 July 2026 at 8pm in the County Meath town of Athboy. Race HQ is the Athboy Convent Community Centre on Kildalkey Road, though the start line itself is roughly a kilometre away on the L4003 towards the Hill of Ward. The course is renowned as one of the fastest on the Irish road racing calendar and is home to an Irish Masters 5k record. The race typically incorporates the Meath Road Race Championships and welcomes runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities. The route runs out from the town through the surrounding countryside before returning to the finish. Post-race refreshments and a prize giving are held back at the Community Centre, with car parking available near the library and church rather than at the venue itself.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
