About this race
The St Catherine's AC Annual Road Race 5k is an evening road race organised by St Catherine's Athletic Club, held in Ballynoe in northeast County Cork. The course takes runners along the rural roads of this quiet east Cork countryside. The terrain is hilly, with the local roads providing a challenging, undulating character. The race is an Athletics Ireland registered event, held under permit, and is one of the established fixtures on the east Cork summer road race calendar. Race numbers are collected at the start on the night. The event is well supported by running clubs from across east Cork and south Munster, and offers prizes across senior and age-category classes for both men and women. The race typically takes place on a Thursday or Friday evening in late July or early August.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
