About this race

The Rooskey 5k is an annual road race organised by Kilglass Gaels GAA Club in the village of Rooskey, which straddles the border of Counties Roscommon and Leitrim on the banks of the River Shannon. The course follows a professionally measured, chip-timed route on tarmac roads through and around the village, with the community centre serving as race headquarters for number collection and post-race refreshments. The route is noted for taking in both County Roscommon and County Leitrim within a single race. The event is open to all levels, with categories for minors, seniors, and masters age groups. Prize-giving and refreshments are served after the race. Drawing competitors from the surrounding midlands region each year, the Rooskey 5k is a well-established and popular fixture on the Connacht and Leinster summer road racing calendar.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
