About this race
The Rob Heffernan Cork City AC Marina Mile is a fast, flat one-mile road race held on the Marina in Cork, organised by Cork City AC and hosted by five-time Olympian Rob Heffernan. The course runs along the Marina, a famous tree-lined riverside promenade that stretches beside the River Lee between Cork city and Blackrock village. Starting at the city end of the Marina and running its straight, level length, the route is purpose-built for fast times and draws everyone from first-timers and children to club runners and elite milers. Held on a September evening, the race forms the centrepiece of a lively festival in Blackrock village, complete with a main stage, live music, food vendors and children's races. With its quick, spectator-friendly course and electric community atmosphere, the event has quickly become a celebration of Cork athletics and the magic of the mile.
