About this race
The Portlaw 5mile Road Race (Tom Jordan Memorial) features a fast, clockwise loop that starts on the northern edge of the town and runs along the flat, straight stretches of the R680. While the first three miles are notably quick and level, the course challenges runners with a steady 800-meter climb between miles three and four before a rapid downhill finish back into the village.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
