About this race

The Mick Murphy Memorial 5k is an annual road race organised by Sliabh Buidhe Rovers AC in Ferns, County Wexford, now in its 21st year. The course follows a single-loop route starting and finishing at the historic Ferns Castle in the centre of Ferns village, passing through the quiet roads of the surrounding area. Organisers describe the course as fast and relatively flat, making it a popular choice for runners targeting competitive times. Chip timing is used throughout, and cash prizes are offered in a number of categories. All finishers receive a souvenir medal, and post-race refreshments and prizegiving are held after the event. The race draws athletes from County Wexford and further afield and has built a strong reputation for its atmosphere and professional organisation over more than two decades of running.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
