About this race
The Lakers Sports & Social 10k Charity Run takes place in Avondale Forest Park near Rathdrum, County Wicklow. The route follows the Avondale parkrun course, a 5k forest loop, which runners complete twice to cover the full 10k distance. The trails wind through mature woodland within the historic Avondale estate, on mixed forest paths and tracks rather than tarmac roads, giving the event a scenic, off-road feel throughout. The terrain is gently undulating rather than flat, reflecting the natural contours of the forest park. Both the start and finish are based at Avondale, with registration taking place on site beforehand. The event is organised by Lakers, a sports, social and recreational club supporting children and adults with an intellectual disability, and the day finishes with a prize-giving and refreshments for all participants, runners and walkers alike, in a relaxed, community-focused atmosphere.

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind.
