About this race

The Kells AC Heritage 5km Race is an annual road race organised by Kells Athletic Club, held in the heritage town of Kells in County Meath. The course is a flat out-and-back route on public roads in and around Kells, starting and finishing near the town's parochial school, which serves as race headquarters. Run on tarmac surfaces throughout, the flat profile makes it an accessible and fast course well suited to those targeting a personal best. Kells is one of Ireland's most historically significant towns, closely associated with the Book of Kells and home to several high crosses and a round tower. The event is AAI permitted and chip timed, welcoming runners of all abilities from juniors to masters. Cash prizes are awarded to the top male and female finishers as well as the leading age category runners, with medals for all finishers and t-shirts for the first 300 registrants. Post-race refreshments are served in the community hall.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Loop Course type
