About this race
The Great Limerick Run Half Marathon begins in the historic Pery Square, surrounded by Georgian architecture and the award-winning People's Park. This scenic route guides participants through the heart of the city and out toward the Raheen and Dooradoyle suburbs, passing local landmarks such as the Old Crescent Rugby Club. Runners navigate a captivating loop that crosses the River Shannon via the Sarsfield Bridge, offering stunning riverside views and passing the iconic Thomond Park stadium. The terrain is predominantly flat and fast, consisting of well-maintained tarmac roads with a total elevation gain of approximately 94 meters. The race reaches a high-energy conclusion on the bustling O’Connell Street, where participants finish amidst thousands of cheering spectators in the city center.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
