About this race
The Great Limerick Run Marathon begins at Pery Square, adjacent to the award-winning People's Park and its historic Georgian architecture. This scenic 26.2-mile course takes participants through a vibrant variety of settings, including the city center, the picturesque University of Limerick campus, and peaceful riverside paths along the Shannon. Runners pass iconic local landmarks such as Thomond Park and cross the breath-taking Living Bridge before heading into the Raheen and Dooradoyle suburbs. The terrain is run entirely on well-maintained tarmac roads and is celebrated for being mostly flat and fast, with only mild elevation changes spread across the route. The race reaches a triumphant conclusion on the bustling O’Connell Street, where participants are greeted by cheering crowds and a festive finish-line atmosphere.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
