About this race

The Great Ireland Run 10k follows a scenic and historic loop through Phoenix Park, starting on Chesterfield Avenue (south of Mountjoy Cross) and finishing on Furze Road. The entirely paved course travels past major landmarks including Farmleigh House, the Papal Cross, and the Phoenix Monument. the 2026 route features a downhill stretch onto St. Mary’s Lane followed by a short, sharp hill around the 3km mark to reach the "15 Acres". Runners then pass the gates of Áras an Uachtaráin before descending into the tranquil Furry Glen near the 8km mark. The final section includes a slight uphill climb out of the glen before a flat sprint toward the finish line.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
