About this race

The Fairhill Five Mile Road Race (an ANI officially measured course) is an iconic evening road race in Ballymena, sponsored by Fairhill Shopping Centre and organised by Ballymena Runners AC. The race starts at the Broughshane Road entrance to the Fairhill Centre and follows a point-to-point route through the town, passing through Suffolk Street and Summerfield Street before entering the famous Ballymena Showgrounds and then into the equally famous Ecos Park. The course continues through the park to just past the four-mile mark, then exits onto St Patricks Way for a fast finish on Suffolk Street outside the Northern Regional College. The route is flat to gently undulating and is widely regarded as a fast course. All finishers receive a commemorative medal and technical vest and post-race prizegiving is held in the Des Allen Suite at Ballymena Showgrounds. Pre-registration is required; there are no entries on the night.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
