About this race
The Cork BHAA John Buckley Sports 5k is the flagship race of the Cork BHAA calendar, drawing record fields of over 1,200 finishers in recent years. The course follows the traditional Marina route, starting near Kennedy Park and running a flat out-and-back along the riverside roads and pathways. The route is entirely on tarmac and is among the fastest 5k courses in Cork. Online pre-entry and on-the-evening registration are available. All finishers receive a discount voucher for John Buckley Sports store in Cork City centre.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
