About this race
The Connemara 100 starts and finishes in the centre of Clifden, County Galway, following a certified 100-mile road loop through some of Connemara's wildest scenery. From Clifden the route heads north to Letterfrack and on through Lettergesh along the coast, before turning south and entering the Inagh Valley, which runners cover twice as the course threads out to Maam Cross and Leenane and back. From there it continues west through Ballynahinch, Roundstone and Ballyconneely before returning to Clifden for a final few laps of the town to the finish. Run entirely on tarmac roads, the course rolls continuously through bog, mountain and coastal terrain, with repeated climbs and descents rather than any sustained flat sections. Runners must have their own support crew throughout, since aid stations can be up to 25 miles apart. With a 30-hour cut-off, it is one of Ireland's toughest ultra-distance road races.
