About this race

The Broughshane 5 Mile Road Race (ANI officially measured course) is an annual evening road race organised by Ballymena Runners AC in collaboration with the Broughshane Community Association and sponsored by The Thatch Inn Gastro Pub Broughshane. The race starts near the Broughshane Community Centre on the Knockan Road and follows a loop through the roads of Broughshane village before returning to the finish near the Community Centre. The course passes through the heart of this picturesque County Antrim village on tightly marshalled roads. The route is generally undulating, typical of the rolling countryside around Broughshane. The event is chip timed, capped at 550 runners, and sells out quickly each year. Pacers are provided across a range of target times. All finishers receive a commemorative medal and vest. Participants are welcomed back to the community centre for prize giving and the famous Ballymena Runners post-race “big feed”.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
