About this race
The Ballinamore AC 10k starts and finishes adjacent to the Island Theatre in Ballinamore, County Leitrim, running on a fast certified course on roads around the town. The route is noted for a downhill section on the opening and closing kilometres, helping make it a quick course popular with runners chasing fast times, and it incorporates the Leitrim 10K Championship. A 5k fun run and walk is held alongside it on the same roads. The races are chip timed and run under an Athletics Ireland permit. Organised by Ballinamore Athletic Club as part of the long-running Ballinamore Family Festival, the event has a strong local heritage dating back decades and draws a competitive county field. The largely road-based course through the town offers a welcoming, well-supported community atmosphere.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
