About this race
The Tara AC 5k starts and finishes at Skryne GFC, on the Hill of Skryne in County Meath, with a shorter 3k children's race held earlier the same evening. The route climbs up towards Skryne Castle, a medieval ruin sitting on the hilltop, giving runners sweeping views across the Boyne Valley and out towards the famous Hill of Tara itself, the ancient seat of the High Kings of Ireland. The course is entirely on road, undulating rather than flat, reflecting the natural rise of the hill it's named after. Run on a Friday evening in late summer, it's chip timed and AAI permit approved, with age category prizes awarded from 40 to 70 and team prizes on offer. Organised by Tara AC, the event regularly draws several hundred adult runners plus a strong field of underage athletes, making it one of the best-attended club road races in Meath.
