About this race

Storming the Castle is an annual 10k road race in the coastal town of Carrickfergus, County Antrim, starting outside the Carrickfergus Amphitheatre Leisure Centre. From the start the route runs through the historic town to Marine Gardens, then follows the scenic promenade along the Marine Highway and waterfront, overlooking the world-class marina with sweeping views across Belfast Lough, before finishing dramatically at the imposing twelfth-century Norman castle near the town centre. The course is noted as fast and flat with strong potential for personal bests, run on tarmac roads and seafront paths. Organised by Seapark AC, the chip-timed event also features a 1km Kids' Fun Run and a 2km Junior Race, with post-race refreshments and entertainment. Set against the backdrop of one of Ireland's best-preserved medieval castles and the shores of Belfast Lough, it combines a quick coastal course with a memorable historic finish and a lively community atmosphere.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
