About this race
The Run Killarney Half Marathon starts and finishes close to The Gleneagle Hotel on Muckross Road. The route heads out along the Muckross Road, includes a short out and back section, before turning and entering the spectacular Killarney National Park and returning to the finish at The Gleneagle Hotel. The course is predominantly tarmac and passes through some of the most celebrated scenery in Ireland, taking runners along lakeside roads and through the woodland trails of the national park. The terrain is gently undulating, with the national park section offering a more varied surface underfoot. This fully chip timed event sells out well in advance each year and draws over a thousand participants.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
