About this race

The Purple Ladies 5k is a women-only road race hosted by Springwell Running Club at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre in Ballymoney, County Antrim. The course starts from the training pitches at the leisure centre, taking runners through Riverside Park and along a footpath loop into the town before returning to the pitches. The route is on tarmac roads and paths and is flat and fast throughout. Now in its 13th year, the race is dedicated to the memory of club member Debbie Tutty and is run in her honour. Chip timing is provided by ChampionChip Ireland and the course record stands at 17:34. The race is open to ladies of all abilities and regularly attracts a capacity field of 300 runners from clubs across Northern Ireland.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Loop Course type

Negligible limit 2.5km Start/finish separation
