About this race
The Medieval 10k begins at the Tholsel on High Street, sending participants on a swift journey through the heart of Kilkenny's historic district. The course traverses the city's iconic landmarks, including the majestic Kilkenny Castle and the scenic banks of the River Nore. This route is predominantly flat and fast, making it an excellent choice for runners looking to maintain a high tempo on a paved, urban surface. After navigating a loop of the city's most famous medieval streets, the race concludes with an atmospheric finish at The Parade.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
