About this race

The Keash King of the Hill 5k takes place in Keash, Co. Sligo, and forms part of the annual King of the Hill event alongside the 10k race. The 5k follows a single loop course in and around Keash Hill, in the shadow of the Caves of Keash, a prominent limestone ridge that defines the landscape of this part of County Sligo. The course features challenging uphill sections and rewards runners with scenic views on the descents, reflecting the hilly terrain of the surrounding area. The event is organised by Keash Parish and is held on the last weekend of July each year in conjunction with the Garland Sunday festival weekend. The race is chip timed and attracts both competitive runners and recreational participants.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Loop Course type
0m limit 5.0m Start/finish drop
0.63km limit 2.5km Start/finish separation
✓ Meets both World Athletics course-profile criteria.
