About this race

The Inis Oírr Wild Atlantic Island Run 5k is an annual road race held on Inis Oírr (Inisheer), the smallest of the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland in Galway Bay. The race starts and finishes at Páirc Peile Inis Oírr and takes runners along the island's quiet roads and boreens, passing iconic limestone landscapes and offering stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Cliffs of Moher. The course is a loop around the island's scenic roads on tarmac. The event raises funds for Coláiste Ghobnait, the local secondary school, and attracts runners who combine the race experience with the unique character of island life.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Loop Course type
0m limit 5.0m Start/finish drop
0.11km limit 2.5km Start/finish separation
