About this race

The Inis Oírr Wild Atlantic Island Run 10k is an annual road race held on Inis Oírr (Inisheer), the smallest of the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland in Galway Bay. The race starts and finishes at Páirc Peile Inis Oírr and takes runners on a longer circuit around the island's roads and boreens, passing limestone karst scenery and offering sweeping views of the Atlantic and the Cliffs of Moher. The 10k route covers more of the island's quiet roads on tarmac. Run under Irish skies with the support of the island community, the event raises funds for Coláiste Ghobnait, the island's secondary school.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
