About this race
The Galway 5k Series (Athenry Leg) follows a fast, single-loop route that starts and finishes on the link road near the village center. The entirely paved course travels through the level outskirts of the town, avoiding the more significant inclines of the historic medieval center. Known as one of the flattest legs in the series, it offers a speedy course on straightforward, rural roads. The run concludes with a final straight back toward the race HQ for a high-energy finish.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
