About this race
The Danny McDaid 15k starts at the Aura Leisure Centre and finishes with a 300-meter lap on the venue's "Danny McDaid" tartan track, named in honour of the race's namesake and two-time Irish Olympic marathon runner. The route heads out onto the roads around Letterkenny on an undulating loop that takes in New Mills and Rashedoge before returning to the complex. The course is entirely on tarmac, with a genuinely rolling profile rather than a flat one, reflecting the Donegal countryside it passes through. Organised by Letterkenny Athletic Club and sponsored by the Station House Hotel, it is a prominent fixture for runners in the region. The race regularly draws a strong field from clubs across Donegal, Derry and beyond, with individual age category prizes on offer, and has previously seen a world age-group record set on its testing but well-organised course.
