About this race
The CS Lewis 5 Mile Challenge is a multi-terrain race organised by Victoria Park and Connswater Athletics Club. The out-and-back course starts and finishes at CS Lewis Square in East Belfast, beneath the iconic statue of Aslan. Runners follow the Connswater Greenway to Victoria Park, where the route takes in four loops over varied surfaces including trail, grass and concrete paths. After completing the park section, runners return along the Greenway to the finish at CS Lewis Square. The course is broadly flat throughout, making it a popular and fast-paced event. Inspirational CS Lewis quotes are displayed around the route. The square provides a lively pre- and post-race setting. Entry is limited to 500 participants and is online only.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
