About this race
The Carey Tools 5k is a Cork BHAA business-house road race held in Blackrock on the southeast side of Cork City. The course starts at the Blackrock Castle car park and runs along the scenic Blackrock to Mahon Greenway, following the flat, well-surfaced former railway walkway out toward Rochestown and over the flyover, on the reverse of the route used by the BHAA Gas Networks 5k. The mostly flat profile and smooth Greenway surface give the course strong potential for fast times, making it popular with club and company runners alike. Run under the Cork BHAA banner, the event is known for its very low entry fee and sociable, inclusive atmosphere. Set along the waterside greenway with views over Cork Harbour, this evening race is a relaxed and competitively quick fixture within the long-running Cork business-house athletics series.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
