About this race
The Clogheen 5k is an annual summer evening road race organised by Clonmel AC, held in the village of Clogheen at the foot of the Vee in south Tipperary. The course takes runners through the village and along the local roads beneath the Knockmealdown Mountains, in one of the most scenic settings in Munster. The route is popular with runners chasing personal bests and is regarded as a good, well-laid-out course. The race is part of the Vee Valley Festival weekend, giving it a lively community atmosphere. It is an Athletics Ireland registered event. Post-race refreshments are served in the Community Hall in Clogheen. Prizes are awarded across a range of age categories for both men and women, and the event consistently attracts a strong competitive field from across Tipperary and neighbouring counties. Chip timing is provided by Justruns Events.

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind.
