About this race

The Black Pig Run is a road race held in the seaside town of Enniscrone, County Sligo, organised by West Sligo Athletics Club as part of the annual Black Pig Festival. Traditionally held on the closing Monday evening of the festival, which runs from 23 to 27 July 2026, the race takes runners out through Enniscrone's rural hinterland before returning to the town. Enniscrone sits on the shores of Killala Bay on the Wild Atlantic Way, well known for its long sandy beach and seaweed baths. The 5k option offers a shorter, more accessible distance alongside the longer 10k on the same course. The event has run for many years as the traditional sporting finale to the festival, drawing a strong field from clubs across Sligo, Mayo and the wider northwest, with the festival's wider programme of music, family entertainment and fireworks providing a lively backdrop to race week.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
