About this race
The Adrigole 5 Mile Road Race is held in the village of Adrigole on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork, organised in conjunction with Beara Athletic Club as part of the Adrigole festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The course is widely regarded as one of the toughest and most scenic in the Beara AC Summer League series, taking in the testing climb of Massmount Hill along the way. The route winds through the dramatic mountain and coastal scenery beneath Hungry Hill, the highest peak of the Caha range, with runners and spectators alike praising its small-village charm and genuinely challenging terrain. The race forms part of a wider summer series organised by Beara AC, which also includes events in Bere Island, Eyeries and Glengarriff over the following weeks. The event is run under an Athletics Ireland permit and presents prizes across a full range of age categories, alongside a cash prize for any course record broken this year.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind.
